There are multiple ways to update your name, gender, and other personal details on Canvas and your student ID if you no longer identify with the information you originally provided. To change your preferred name, primary/legal name, or gender, please follow these steps provided by the Registrar’s office.
Two prayer and meditation rooms are located in Jordan Hall 182 C and D; two prayer and meditation rooms are located in the Efroymson Diversity Center located on the lower level of Atherton Union; and a contemplation room can be found on the second floor of The Compass Center. In addition, Sweeney Chapel is located at South Campus and is a resource for prayer, meditation, and reflection.
For Butler to be a welcoming place for all religious identities, we strive to ensure that various religious accommodations are in place. This includes the option to work with faculty to be absent for religious observance that conflicts with the academic schedule. All accessibility grievances can be reported via Student Disability Services’ Grievance Procedure.
The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment has many publicly accessible demographic reports available in the Butler University Fact Book.
Graduates may update their contact information, gender, name, preferred pronouns and other biographical information using this link.

DEI Innovation Fund
Members of the Butler community are invited to submit proposals to the DEI Innovation Fund, which provides investments in University-wide or unit-specific initiatives that advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
I-LEAD Space
In partnership with Academic Affairs and the Office of the Provost, the I-LEAD space (JH186) is a dedicated campus space for students, faculty, staff, and community partners of different identities and backgrounds to engage one another in meaningful programming that advances interactional diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Founder’s Celebration
Founder’s Celebration provides an opportunity for all members of the Butler community to collectively recognize our university’s history, traditions and the pursuit of change sparked by Ovid Butler’s vision to create educational opportunities for all regardless of gender, race, or circumstance. We were founded for change and continue our efforts to amplify our mission in creating an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning and working environment.
